The Department of Justice’s annual Tribal Consultation on Violence Against American Indian and Alaska Native Women is held pursuant to Public Law 109-162, Title IX, Section 903 of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2005. This law requires the U.S. Attorney General to conduct an annual consultation with Indian tribal governments to address the federal administration of all tribal funds and programs established under the Violence Against Women Acts (VAWA) of 1994, 2000, and 2005. The statute further directs the Attorney General to solicit recommendations from the Indian tribes at an annual consultation concerning the following items:

1. Administering grant funds appropriated for tribal governments and programs created to benefit tribal governments by the original Violence Against Women Act and subsequent legislation;
2. Enhancing the safety of Indian women from domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking; and
3. Strengthening the Federal response to crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

The 15th Annual OVW Government to Government Tribal Consultation will be a virtual consultation scheduled for October 27-30, 2020 

Streamlining OVW’s Tribal Grant Process and Special COVID-19 Consultation (This Summer Consultation is separate from the Annual Tribal Consultation). 

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and Tribal Affairs Division (TAD) invites you to discuss OVW’s proposal to streamline the application process for OVW’s Tribal-specific grant programs separate and apart from DOJ’s Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS), including issuing a special, COVID-19/violence against women solicitation for Tribes this summer.
